Why I Support South Brevard Sharing Center
I’ve spent almost half of my life living here in Brevard County. Occasionally, I would see homeless folks around town either looking for food or walking into wooded areas where they set up camp. Having traveled to big cities quite a bit, seeing the homeless on the streets was not a shock to me. I often thought, like many people do, Why don’t they just get a job?, not understanding how or why they were homeless to begin with. This was a reaction that, unfortunately, most of society has and it is not one I am proud to admit entered my mind. However, after looking more closely at the problem, even in a small town like Melbourne, FL, I quickly began to realize that in most cases, it was not a choice by the person experiencing homelessness.
Soon after, I felt compelled to better understand why we had a significant homeless population in Brevard County. I am proud to say that this past year I met the great folks at South Brevard Sharing Center that work tirelessly to combat this issue. They spend countless hours helping people restore their dignity and attain self-sufficiency again. Through generous donations, they provide those in need with food, clothing, basic hygiene products and assistance with paying rent and utilities. I could never give enough to such a great organization.
